The Lady Phoenix beat Ridgeland 57-15 earlier today in the first round of the Comcast Holiday Tourney hosted at LaFayette High School.

“We had a pretty decent defensive effort and rebounded the ball well,” said SHS head coach Stephanie Caudell.

Decent might have been an understatement as the Sonoraville girls held Ridgeland to three points in the first quarter, two in the second and five in both the third and fourth quarters.

The Lady Phoenix scored 15 in the first, eight in the second, 21 in the third and 13 in the fourth.

Brittany Redd scored a game high 11 points and added six rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Noelle Defoor followed Redd with 10 points. Berkley Potts and Jennilee Gentry both scored eight. Gentry led the team with nine rebounds. Defoor added five.

“All 13 players got a chance to contribute in the win,” said Caudell. “Brittany was aggressive on both ends of the floor, leading us in scoring, assists and steals.

The girls will play in the semifinals against either Chattooga or LaFayette tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
