It will not take Cedartown High School fast-pitch softball head coach Chris McKelvey long to see what he has on his team this year.

That’s because the Lady Bulldogs will start practicing next Monday, Aug. 2 and three days later on Thursday, Aug. 5 they will scrimmage Model High School.

The scrimmage will be held in Cedartown and will take place at 5 p.m.

“All the varsity kids will play in that game,” McKelvey said. “The score really doesn’t matter. There will be no winners or losers.”

This season McKelvey said they will be playing in two tournaments with 14 regular season games instead of the three tournaments and 12 regular season games that they have done in the past.

“I just felt that was in the best interest of our program this year,” McKelvey said. “The plan is to be battle tested and ready to go for the region tournament.”

Cedartown will officially kick-off the regular season on Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14 by competing in the Model Tournament at Alto Park in Rome.

A week later on Saturday, Aug. 21 the Lady Bulldogs will play a doubleheader against Haralson County and Bremen on the road. They will play the Rebelettes at 10 a.m. and the Lady Blue Devils at noon.

Region 7-AAA play starts Tuesday, Aug. 24 when Cedartown plays host to Gilmer at 5:55 p.m. The very next day on Wednesday, Aug. 25 they will host Cass in a non-region game at 5:55 p.m.

On Thursday, Aug. 26 the Lady Bulldogs will visit Ringgold, also at 5:55 p.m. Cedartown will end play for the month of August on Tuesday, Aug. 31 by hosting Heritage-Catoosa at five minutes before 6 p.m.

Pickens County is the destination for a road game on Thursday, Sept. 2 as the two new Region 7-AAA opponents will battle it out at 5:55 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 7 has McKelvey’s team at home hosting Dalton at 5:55 p.m. Two days later, on Thursday, Sept. 9 Cedartown travels to Bartow County to tangle with Cartersville at 5:55 p.m.

Cedartown will compete in the Adairsville Tournament at Mannings Mill on Friday, Sept. 10 and Saturday, Sept. 11.

After that tournament, Cedartown will end the season with five more regular season games.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to LaFayette on Tuesday, Sept. 14 for a 5 p.m. contest. On Thursday, Sept. 16 Cedartown will visit region foe Allatoona at 5:30 p.m.

Murray County will visit Polk County on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 5:55 p.m. for a region encounter. On Thursday, Sept. 23 the Lady Bulldogs travel north to play Ridgeland at 5 p.m.

The final regular season game of the year will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. at home against Southeast Whitfield.

The Region 7-AAA tournament will be held Oct. 2-9 in a place to be determined.
