CHICKAMAUGA - The Gordon Lee Trojans didn't panic when they found themselves trailing by one point after the first quarter on Friday.

They didn't panic when they found themselves down eight points with less than two minutes left in the first half.

Instead, the Trojans simply stayed the course and played their game and the result was a big 61-52 victory over the Bowdon Red Devils in front of a large and incredibly loud crowd at the Ware-Jewell Center.

The win also gave the Trojans (16-5, 9-0) a two-game lead over Bowdon (15-3, 7-2) in the race for the top seed in the upcoming Region 6-A tournament with just three regular season games left.

The Trojans led by a single point when the Devils clicked off a 9-0 run to forge a 23-15 lead with 1:45 to go in to half.

But Gordon Lee clamped down on the defensive end and was able to whittle the lead down to 23-19 by halftime.

Then in the second half, the Trojans - who were ice-cold from the perimeter in the first half - finally starting finding their range.

Freshman Daniel Brooks, who nearly missed the game after spraining an ankle in practice on Wednesday, buried back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead down to one with two minutes left in the third quarter.

Darius Moten briefly got the momentum back for Bowdon with a follow-up slam, but Brooks immediately answered with a 3-pointer, setting off a deafening roar from the Gordon Lee crowd.

Grayson Chambers followed up with a steal and lay-up, and after Moten tied the game at 35 on a put-back with 11 seconds left, Chambers brought down the house with a twisting, spinning, 12-foot, fade-away jumper that swished through the net just before the horn that ended the quarter.

The Trojans would never trail again.

With Bowdon battling foul trouble, Gordon Lee began to take control. Ryan Culbreth's fastbreak lay-up and a three-ball by Chambers pushed the lead to 11 with 3:30 to play.

The Trojans then connected on 10 free throws in the final two minutes.

Brooks made 5-of-6 free tosses during that span and finished the game 7-of-8 from the line as he ended the night with a game-high 16 points.

Chambers, Culbreth and Derek Roberts had 14 points each. Roberts also added 10 rebounds and four steals in the victory, the Trojans' 11th in a row.

Moten, who missed the Trojans' 64-60 win at Bowdon earlier this year, had 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocks. Cedric Strickland and Terrell Thornton added 11 points.

The Trojans will host Mount Zion on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
