The Lady Warriors fell to visiting Pickens on Tuesday 56-26. Gordon Central (0-1) allowed 23 points in the third quarter to drop the season opening game.

“I think they [Pickens] just got some momentum there in the third quarter,” said GC Head Coach Lee DuBose. “We let them start fast breaking. They had some easy looks at the basket but they also had some wide open three pointers that we just didn’t get out there and get a hand in their face.”

The Lady Dragons scored 10 points in the first to take an early four point lead in the game. The Lady Warriors stayed close in the second quarter and went into the half barely down 19-15.

However, Pickens went on a 23-4 run in the third quarter and took a commanding 23 point lead.

The Dragons outscored Gordon Central 14-7 in the final quarter.

I think we have a lot to work on but that the same time we are a far cry ahead of where we were last year at this same time,” said DuBose. “We knew Pickens County was going to be big and physical, we just didn’t have the size to match up to them.”

Pickens’ Jasmine Goss led all scorers with 15 points.

Tori Sexton, of the Lady Warriors finished a close second with 13. She also had four blocked shots. Kate Norton added four points and also had three rebounds and three assists.

Taylor Simpson led the Lady Warriors with six rebounds. Monica Mills added another three.

Apryl Pettit and Kimbal Kapuscinski each had eight points for the Lady Dragons.
